11 Tool Reflections Final Post

What are your favorite tools you now have in your personal technology toolbox? Skype and Photo Story 3 for Windows.

Briefly describe a particular activity that you will plan for your students using at least one of these new tools. I would set a video conference with another classroom from another country just to share knowledge of both our customs and traditions. This activity would be during our social studies curriculum for Friends Near and Far.

How have you transformed your thinking about the learning that will take place in your classroom? Learning is not longer confined to the classroom it's an ongoing process that it's constantly evolving into a deeper, richer and sharing experience with the digital world.

Were there any unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you? I never thought there were so many tools ready to use for free. It has really evolved so quickly that very soon we won't have to research in books or libraries.

Tool 11 Digital Citizens

I would make sure my students understand about being good digital citizens:

Safety
Etiquette
Learning Strategies
Literacy

This is how I would teach my students the idea of a good digital citizen.

Students must know that just like in the real world the digital world has rules, laws and if you want to be a good digital citizen you have to obey these rules in order to be succesful.

Tool 10

USA Factbook. We can use this app to learn the state capital, state natural resources and state symbols.

Hear Planet. We can actually go visiting the nation's landmarks like the White House, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, Mount Rushmore, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.

The students will be using the iTouch and iPad applications like Hangman, Google Earth learning content in such an entertaining manner they won't even feel they are at school. They will love it!

Tool 9

Using Jing will enable all my students to interact with people all over the the world and share information with each other. For the social studies unit children can study maps and cardinal points.

My students can use skype for social studies unit friends around the world by being able to communicate with students from that country and ask those students to share information about their country and viceversa. We can have videoconferencing with people around the world and see their faces. It's a good for tool to help students with homework and projects. It is really powerful.

Tool 8

El Conejo lector

This video contains a lot of Jose Luis Orozco's songs which would be a good tool to review at the beginning of the school year.

Aprendamos las vocales y colores

This video will help the children review the colors and vowels. Teachers may use this as a center for children who still need to learn these concepts.

Tool 6

Wikis is a great tool to communicate an idea in an easy and fun way. People can visit the page and edit bringing their ideas to the table. It's a work in progress but in an organized manner. I think students can actually do research projects and publish everything they know about a specific topic. This also would be great to share teaching ideas and strategies with our team members without having to be in a meeting.
